Stage 1 – Windows XP for Beginners (Essential skills and understandings)

Prerequisite: Enthusiasm!


Course Content: Parts of the Computer. - Keyboard Layout  - The Start Menu  - Understand the desktop items.-  Shut down with and without the mouse. - The Start Menu. -  Use the Reset button. - Examine the Taskbar and its parts. - Use and understand both mouse buttons. - Use different methods for closing an application  - Resize and move windows. - Open multiple windows.-  Rename and delete icons. - Use the Recycle Bin  - The System Tray


Stage 2 – Windows XP Basics

Prerequisite: Windows XP for Newbies OR experience with using Windows 98.


Course Content: Start Menu – Customise and Rearrange folders - My Documents - The Taskbar -: Quick Launch Toolbar - Use Control Panel - Set options in Mouse – Regional Settings - Set Display options - Background - Screensaver - Appearance - Settings - Desktop icons - Arrange - Remove


Stage 3 – Windows XP Proficiency

Prerequisite: Windows XP Basics OR a fair amount of experience using Windows 98.


Course Content: Taskbar and Start Menu – Advanced Options – Make new Toolbar : Using the Control Panel – Sounds and Audio Devices – System : Mastering the Start Menu – Order Folders and Programs – Advanced Options – Remove items from the All Programs lists – Pin to Start Menu – Add a New Folder to the All Programs List – Reduce the List with Cascading Menus – Startup Folder : Using MSCONFIG : System Restore : Making Desktop Shortcuts : Folders – Customising : Add or Remove Programs : Hardware Installation : Troubleshooting : Disk Defragmentation : HELP and SUPPORT


Stage 4 – Windows XP for Experts

Prerequisites: A very enquiring mind, plenty of enthusiasm and determination!


Course Content: New features of Windows XP - Customising the Start Menu - Understanding Windows basics - Manipulating Music, Video and Photographs - Networking features - Customising the Interface - Examining Accessibility options - Fixing Problems with Troubleshooters - Using System Restore - Understanding System Information - Task Manager features.

 

Vista

Windows Vista

Vista Stage 1 – (Beginners)

Prerequisites: A willingness to learn.


Course Content: This course is for absolute beginners.
Parts of the computer – Keyboard layout – Using the Start Menu – Taskbar and its parts – Use the mouse – Recycle Bin – Common Windows components – Use Maximise, Resize, Close buttons – Resize and move windows – Enter and edit text – Notification Area – Rename and delete icons.


Vista Stage 2 – (Basic Skills)

Prerequisites: This course is intended for people progressing from Stage 1 AND people who have experience in Windows XP, as features unique to Windows Vista are introduced.


Course Content: Close and restart Vista – Identify desktop components – Modify program windows – Use Help and Support – Customise the Start Menu – Taskbar features – Start Menu right pane links – Welcome Centre features – Security Centre essentials – Control Pane Home and Classic View – Personalise the desktop – Use the Sidebar – Add gadgets to the Sidebar


Vista Stage 3 – Competent Users (1)

Prerequisites: MUST have completed Vista Stage 2. The course will be beyond less experienced users.


Course Content: Make new folders on the Start Menu – Pin programs to the Start Menu – Add programs to the Quick Launch Toolbar – Change the User Account – Explore the User folder – Examine the Computer folder – Use the “centres” of System Maintenance, Security, Hardware and Sound, Programs, User Accounts – Use multiple programs on the Taskbar with Flip and Flip 3D – Hide and reveal the Taskbar – Add new icons to the desktop – Move and resize icons – Make and use a new desktop folder.


Vista Stage 4 – Competent Users (2)

Prerequisites: ESSENTIAL that Stage 3 course has been completed! This course is a continuation of Stage 3.


Course Content: Use all Recycle Bin features –Organise the Sidebar – Customise gadgets – Download and install gadgets – Use disk defragmenter – Use disk cleanup – Set a System Restore point – Investigate system information – Use trouble shooters – Look at Backup and Restore – Install and remove programs – Examine default programs – Understand compatibility mode.
