Stage 1 - Basic E-mail Skills

Prerequisites: Participants must have experience with word processing, and be familiar with the layout of Windows components.


Course Content: Start Windows Mail – Send and receive e-mails – Customise Inbox layout – Explore Inbox Menu Bar – Examine options for all Menu Bar items – Examine Inbox toolbar – Explore New Message screen and Menu Bar items – Format an e-mail – Set common options.


Stage 2 - Using E-mail Features

Prerequisites: Either familiarity with Outlook Express or completion of Stage 1 Windows Mail.


Course Content: Make new folders – Add individual contacts – Import and export the contact list – Organise contact groups – Set Junk E-mail options – Read suspect e-mails – Forward e-mails – Attach a text file and photographs – Insert graphics – Set security options – Set up a second e-mail account.


Jazzing up your E-mails - with Outlook Express (Windows XP Required)

Prerequisites: Ability to use Outlook Express/Windows Mail

Internet Explorer

Internet Explorer Stage 1 – (Basic Skills)

Prerequisites: Keyboard skills and willingness to learn a “new language”.


Course Content: Start Internet Explorer – Examine screen components – Use Favourites Centre – Use navigation bars and hyperlinks – Explore Microsoft’s Internet Explorer site – Use web History – Use all toolbar icons – Come to grips with some new terms – Set pop-up blockers and phishing filter – Show the Menu Bar – Set additional toolbars – Understand URLs.


Internet Explorer Stage 2 – (Using the Internet features)

Prerequisites: Completion of Internet Explorer Stage 1


Course Content: Add and organize Favourites – Use the right click on toolbars, graphics, text – Add a second home page – Use Express Cleanup – Set Internet Options: Security, Privacy, Programs, Advanced – Use tabbed browsing – Download software – Investigate software sites – Find search providers – Set the search engine – Examine links on the ComputerPals site – View Adobe Acrobat pages.
